As of Windows 7, some versions of Samba require some modifications to the Local Security policy to allow Windows to connect.
Symptoms of this problem are that windows cannot connect and simply keeps asking for username and password.
To make this change:
Go to: Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Local Security Policy
Select: Local Policies -> Security Options
Set the following values:
Network Security: LAN Manager Authentication level |
Send LM & NTLM responses |
Network Security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP" |
Uncheck Require 128-bit encryption |
