Really Awesome New Cisco confIg Differ
RANCID [Really Awesome New Cisco confIg Differ] monitors a router's (or more generally a device's) configuration, including software and hardware (cards, serial numbers, etc) and uses CVS (Concurrent Version System) or Subversion to maintain history of changes.
At the moment, the system is automated. roots cron checks netdisco hourly (*:30) for new switches and dumps the total list in to /var/rancid/networking/router.db.
Rancid (running as rancid user) runs its check every hour, *:01.
Files are in: /var/rancid/networking/configs
Password information is configured in /var/rancid/.cloginrc
Some high-level configuration is kept in /etc/rancid/rancid.conf.
Rancid sends mail to the "rancid-networking" group in /etc/aliases.
Disclaimer: At the moment, a source install of rancid is alongside a RPM install; this is making things very confusing until I can sort them out.
