MAC Addresses

What is a MAC Address?

A MAC Address is a 12 character identifier that is assigned to your device when it is manufactured. The characters are separated by colons or dashes. It may also be called a Physical Address.

Why does Morningside need my MAC Address?

We use the MAC address to filter access to the wired network. It helps prevent unauthorized access and helps protect your data. When you submit the MAC address for your device to us, we register it on the appropriate network, granting you access to the Internet on the device.

How do I find my MAC Address?

While the process to find your MAC address may be slightly different depending on the software your equipment is running, here are some general instructions for finding your MAC address. Make sure to indicate what type of device you're registering when you contact Tech Services.

Windows

  1. Click on the Start button, and in the search dialog box, type "run" and then press enter.
  2. Type "ipconfig /all" and press enter.
  3. Locate the entry for whichever connection you're attempting to register. Usually it will be something named like "Local Area Connection n".

Mac OS X

  1. Click the Apple Menu and then go to System Preferences.
  2. Click Network, and select the device you wish to register. Then click Advanced.
  3. You should find a Hardware tab across the top of the window that pops up. Click that, and you should find the MAC Address listed below.

Playstation 4

  1. Navigate to the "Settings" Icon from the PlayStation Menu.

  2. Select the "System" Icon.
  3. Select "System Information"
  4. MAC Address is listed for LAN Cable and WiFi.

Playstation 3

  1. Navigate to the "Settings" Icon from the PlayStation Menu.

  2. Select the "System" Icon.
  3. Select "System Information"
  4. MAC Address is listed for LAN Cable and WiFi.

Xbox One

  1. Navigate to the "Settings" Page from the main menu.
  2. Select "Network"
  3. Select "Advanced Settings"
  4. MAC Address is listed on the right side of the screen.

Xbox 360

  1. Select "Settings" from the Dashboard
  2. Select "System"
  3. Select "Network Settings" from the System menu.
  4. Select "Configure Network"
  5. Select the "Additional Settings" tab
  6. Select "Advanced Settings"
  7. MAC Address should be listed onscreen.

Wii U

  1. From the Wii U Menu, select "System Settings"
  2. Select "Internet"
  3. Select "View MAC Address"

Wii

  1. Go to Wii Settings
  2. Select "Internet"
  3. Select "Console Information"
  4. MAC Address should be displayed onscreen.
